Executives do not become objective by ignoring fear, anger or ambition. They become less aware of what is shaping their judgement.

Empathy improves leadership only when it expands judgement. When it follows familiarity, emotional fluency or personal connection, it can make unfair decisions feel compassionate.

Leaders do not become objective by refusing to show emotion. They simply force the emotion to influence the organisation through less visible channels.

Emotional maturity is not measured by how calmly a leader speaks. It is measured by whether they can remain present when the conversation threatens their certainty, status or self-image.

The purpose of emotional intelligence is not to remove discomfort. It is to help leaders respond to it with honesty, judgement and responsibility.

Reading the room is not leadership if you use that awareness only to remain liked, avoid conflict or protect your position.
